WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Richard Baker, R-Baton Rouge, announced today that the USDA office of rural development has awarded a federal grant of $103,150 to the Village of French Settlement in Livingston Parish to enhance law enforcement capabilities and community safety.

The award was granted as part of the USDA’s Natural Disaster Initiative, and will be used to purchase two new police cars, six ballistic bullet-proof vests, and one digital communication sign to alert citizens to important information in times of emergency.

The grant will enable French Settlement to patrol the community and provide for the safety of police officers.

Baker’s office has worked closely with Mayor Toni Guitrau in support of the French Settlement grant application.

“I congratulate Mayor Guitrau for her efforts to improve the safety of the citizens of French Settlement,” Baker said.
